Last night, we met up with members of the local Sands group to discuss what they would like to include in the Birthing Suite Annexe. The Annexe will be a department dedicated to the care of families who experience a stillbirth or neonatal death. Sands have helped us in the development of this area from the start and we are so grateful to the local members for all their support and expertise. As they have put it, getting the smallest things right can make a huge difference to families going through the loss of a baby.

The email below was sent to Sands so we are sharing for anyone who may be interested in attending. It is not run by Sands but a different charity called Compassionate Friends.
I wonder if you would mind sharing details of this supportive weekend either on your website or with your next mailing.
The Compassionate Friends Scottish Gathering is being held on April 13th to 15th in Perth and is a residential event open to anyone whose child, sibling or grandchild has died, at any age and from any cause.
The Compassionate Friends has been supporting bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents for almost 50 years and we have found that often, peer support in a safe, compassionate environment, meeting other bereaved families, can be of great comfort to those who have suffered the most devastating of losses.
All the volunteers on the retreat are themselves bereaved parents or siblings.

Start 2018 by doing something amazing - take on #challenge15 and cover 15 miles to help save a baby’s life.
15 babies die before, during or shortly after birth every day in the UK. We are launching #challenge15 on 15th January to highlight this appalling fact, and to raise £15,000 to do everything we can to save families from this tragedy.
Whether you’re a runner who wants to take on 15 miles in under two hours; a newbie who wants to try five 5k jogs over 5 weekends; or a walker, cyclist or swimmer who wants to make this challenge your own – you decide how you want to take part in #challenge15 and we’ll be there to support you every step of the way.
Find out more below.
Please can any ideas for Scottish articles for the next network/volunteers newsletter be sent to me before the end of January. Please note that we may not be able to include everything that groups send us for the Network Newsletter. We will try as much as we can to include mention of your event/story, but we cannot guarantee to do so. A clear photo, and lots of details about your event will definitely help. Photos of your Christmas services or tree-fest events would be great too. ... See MoreSee Less

Grief is always hard to cope with, but at this time of year it can be especially difficult. You may feel that the usual traditions and customs you’ve always looked forward to at this time of year can feel strange and “not right” without your loved one, you may be struggling with the idea of celebrating Christmas at all this year or you may even be looking forward to it as these traditions and customs remind you of happier memories of happier times. It may even feel like you now need to find a “new normal” way and that way will be unique FOR YOU. All of these thoughts are OK to have and they are normal. There is no right or no wrong way for you to feel, the ONLY way is the way that works for you and what feels OK for you.
